Futsal (indoor)
Join the Shelburne Soccer Club’s FUTSAL league

The Shelburne Soccer club will be accepting Pre-registration without payment until we have the logistics and registration numbers worked out for the indoor Futsal league.  This is our first attempt to offer such a program in the winter, so please be patient and understanding during the set-up.  The cost to join will be around $75.00 per child. We anticipate the league will run from the first week of October to the end of April with a break at Christmas and standard school holidays. The age groups for the Futsal league will be U8/U10/U12-14.

We are also looking at continuing the winter development program. No confirmation has been set-up for this as of yet. Please keep checking back for more information.

To guarantee a spot please fill out a REGISTRATION FORM  and send it to:

What is Futsal?
Futsal is a game developed in 1930 in Uruguay, the same year as the first World Cup which also took place there. It is a combination of soccer, hockey and basketball. It is played in a basketball size court, with changes on the fly, an accumulation of 5 team fouls for a penalty shot and 5 personal fouls to be ejected with throw-ins allowed by the goalie in place of a goal kick, in place of corners and from the sidelines. It is played 5 a side, with a size 4 low-bounce ball to keep it at the feet of the player with 3x2m goals. There are no slide tackles or shoulder charges allowed. The games run from 25 to 40 minutes in length with no stoppage time except for 1 time out allowed per half.

Why Futsal?
Futsal is promoted by FIFA and is really good for developing players to play outdoor soccer. Due to the small playing area, with no boards to use to get out of a tight spot, the players are forced to be creative and be more skillful. They also need to constantly move to get open. The defensive players are forced to mark their man better. When the ball goes out of play there is 4 seconds allowed to get the ball to the sideline and returned to play. Keepers are allowed 5 seconds to make their throw-ins and the team is allowed 12 seconds to advance the ball past half, keeping the pace very fast and fluid. In Brazil, most players don’t even play outside until they are 14, their footwork and skill on the ball shows the benefit of Futsal.
